Front: Portrait of Baron Edmond James de Rothschild (1845–1934), a member of the French branch of the Rothschild banking dynasty. A group of Israeli agricultural workers. The denomination "Five Hundred Sheqalim" and "Bank of Israel" in Hebrew. Back: Cluster of grapes on the vine. Names of 44 settlements in the Land of Israel in two lines of microprint, "500 Sheqalim" and "Bank of Israel" in Arabic and English. Watermark: Portrait of Baron Rothschild. Security features: Solid, embedded, vertical, 0.5 mm wide security thread. Consecutively running black serial numbers on the reverse of the banknote. Watermarked paper. Look-through feature: A geometric pattern on the front merges with a pattern on the back to form a Star of David when held against the light. Tactile feature: A small circle in the lower right-hand side of the obverse. Predominant colour: Red. Artist: Zvi Narkiss. Signatures: Haim Barkai (Chairman of the Advisory Council); Moshe Mandelbaum (Governor of the Bank, 1982–1986). Security thread: Solid, embedded, vertical, 0.5 mm wide. Printing method: Intaglio. Issuer: Bank of Israel. Date of Issue: 1 December 1982. Legal tender: No (since 4 September 1986). Total issue: Unknown. Material: Cotton fiber paper.
