Portuguese coat of arms (Armillary sphere + the quinas + the castles). Reverse: Compass Rose of the Winds or Windrose (Rosa dos ventos), Compass Star (Stella Maris) also known as Compass Rhumb Card with Compass Points. Enlarged map of old West Africa and the drawing of the Elmina Castle, situated on Gold Coast, now Ghana. Detail (two men as navigators: Pedro Nunes and Gil Eanes) from the Monument to the Discoveries "Padrão dos Descobrimentos" on the edge of the Tagus River in Lisbon.
