Front: Portrait of Nicolae Iorga (17 January 1871 – 27 November 1940). Willow Gentian (Gentiana asclepiadaea) flowers. Coat of Arms. BNR bank monogram. Back: Episcopal Cathedral of Curtea de Arges monastery erected by Neagoe Basarab (1512–1521). Stylised crusader eagle as Walachian Coat of Arms of Prince Constantin Brincoveanu. BNR bank monogram. Shadow image: Nicolae Iorga; BNR logo. Security features: Transparent window in a shape of a crusader eagle as Walachian Coat of Arms of Prince Constantin Brincoveanu. Consecutively running vertical black and ascending red horizontal serial numbers on the reverse of the banknote. Almost 2 mm wide simulated security thread. Hi-lite '1' block and the serial numbers on the reverse fluoresce under ultraviolet light. EURion constellation or Omron rings (doughnuts). Main colour: Tea green. Artist: Unknown. Remark: This banknote is made from a polymer plastic substrate.

 
Security features:

Transparent window: Stylised crusader eagle as Walachian Coat of Arms of Prince Constantin Brincoveanu.

Shadow image ("watermark"): Portrait and NBR logo, next to the transparent window. The shadow image is visible only when the banknote is held up to the light.

Security thread: Hold the banknote against the light and the thread will appear as a dark narrow stripe in the middle area.

Perfect register: Flower, visible when the banknote is held up to the light. Parts of the flower printed on the obverse beneath the name of the central bank match perfectly with the parts printed on the reverse and build a complete image.

Iridescent stripe on the reverse side: All Romanian notes in circulation have on the right of the reverse side a vertical translucent iridescent stripe which has the nominal value printed seven times.

Microtext: All Romanian notes in circulation have, on the obverse and reverse, printed areas which contain tiny writing. This can be seen using a magnifying glass.

UV print: On the reverse, green tetragon in UV light which holds the nominal value: "1". The black vertical serial number shines green, the red horizontal increasing characters serial number shines orange in UV light.
