1 Pound Sterling 2.1.1957 – The Commercial Bank of Scotland Limited (Front: Portrait of Henry Thomas Cockburn of Bonaly, Lord Cockburn (1779–1854), was a Scottish lawyer, judge and literary figure, depicted in a cameo. Allegorical women half lying down, symbolizing Agriculture and Navigation, supporting wrapped around by thistles of Scotland coin-cameo, which depicts portrait of an allegoric female symbolising Caledonia, in profile. Mountains. Steamship. Back: Arms of The Commercial Bank of Scotland Limited (Founded 1810) surmounted by the Latin motto "Ditat Servata Fides" ("Preservation of faith enriches") depicting seated allegoric female (Caledonia) holding a ball and an anchor in her hands (crest), an open Scottish helmet, two griffins (griffon, gryphon) support the escutcheon, an open book, crossed keys and a priest holding a St. Andrew's Cross or the Saltire. In 1958 C.B.S. Ltd. had merged with the National Bank of Scotland to become the National Commercial Bank of Scotland.
