1 Pound Sterling 29.2.1968 – The British Linen Bank (Front: Portrait of Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832), a Scottish historian, novelist, poet, and playwright. Coat of arms of the British Linen Bank (granted in 1934). Front and back: Coin emblem surmounted by the Latin motto "Ditat" ("It enriches"), depicting seated Athena (Pallas) holding a shield with Gorgon Medusa's winged head, a sailing ship in full sail (taken from the coat of arms of the Union Bank of Scotland. The Union Bank was absorbed by Bank of Scotland in 1955), and a wooden plough. British Linen Bank merged with Bank of Scotland in 1971. Watermark: None. Security thread: Solid, 0.5 mm wide.
