Front and back: Coin emblem surmounted by the Latin motto "Ditat" ("It enriches"), depicting seated Athena (Pallas), the goddess of wisdom, of household arts and crafts, holding a shield with Gorgon Medusa's winged head, a sailing ship in full sail (taken from the coat of arms of the Union Bank of Scotland. The Union Bank was absorbed by Bank of Scotland in 1955), and a wooden plough. British Linen Bank merged with Bank of Scotland in 1971.
