1000 Shilingi (2000) (Obverse: Effigy of President Julius Kambarage Nyerere (1922–1999). Coat of arms depicting male and female holding elephant tusks. African elephant with a baby. Ornamental guilloche pattern, lathework and lintels throughout the banknote. Reverse: Industrial buildings thought to belong to Kiwira Coal Mine in Songwe region. Old carved teak doors to People's Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ) in Stone Town. Clove plant (Syzygium aromaticum). Watermark: Head of a giraffe. Security features: Consecutively running black horizontal and red vertical serial numbers on the obverse of the banknote. Solid, fully embedded, vertical 1 mm wide security tread with demetalized name of the central bank on it. Coloured filament fibers (hairs), the denomination '1000' hi-lite block and the vertical serial number fluoresce when exposed to an ultraviolet light. Tactile feature: Four vertically positioned rectangular shapes on the right hand side of the giraffe's head. Main colours: Green, red-orange and dark brown. Signature: Daniel N.
